What is the Digital Switchover?

Switchover is when all television in the UK switches to a digital signal. This is happening between 2008 and 2012, one region at a time. (Note: digital switchover doesn't apply to radio.)
To make sure you keep your TV service, you will need to convert your existing television to digital before the switchover happens in your region. Fortunately your new LG37LF7700 is digital ready.

When will the digital switchover happen in my area?

Digital UK, who are an independent organisation are co-ordinating the digital switchover
Don't worry you'll get plenty of advance warning and there will be lots of information and help given before digital switchover affects your area.
The switchover will happen between now and 2012 one region at a time. Take a look at the map below to see when your area will be affected :

How can I be ready for the Digital Switchover?

You must ensure that your TV can receive digital signals. If you can already watch more than five channels, it is probably digital already.
If not, you will need to adapt it by connecting it to a digital set-top box, or replace it with one of the new digital televisions.
This applies to all the TV sets in your home, and to any recorder (video or DVD) that you use to record from the TV.
Almost any TV can be converted with a digital box, even a black and white one so there is no need to buy a new TV unless you want to.
Most digital boxes connect to a TV using a SCART cable. If you do not have a SCART socket on the back of your TV you will need to ask for a digital box with a built in RF modulator.

If you do decide to get a new TV, make sure it carries the ‘digital tick’. The ‘digital tick’ means that it is designed to continue working after the switchover

Don’t leave it to the last minute – get ready now!

Why are we going Digital?

Digital is now the best technology for broadcasting TV. To ensure that everyone in the UK can receive it, the signal needs to be available for free everywhere, ideally through a normal aerial.
At present, around 74% of households are in areas where this is possible. Digital signals for the rest of the country can only be switched on when the existing analogue ones are switched off.
After switchover almost everyone (at least 98.5%) will be able to receive digital TV through an aerial.
